Compass

Compass is an online portal that coordinates all areas of school management and can be accessed by parents and staff of Hughesdale Primary School. Compass can be accessed on any web browser or on smart phones, with the ‘Compass School Manager’ app available for download on the Apple and Android app stores.

The program was implemented in Term 4, 2018 at Hughesdale Primary School, and as everyone builds their capacity with this program, we will continue to implement additional features.

Every family is issued with a personal username and password to log into their family portal. From there, you are able to:

  • Monitor your child’s attendance and enter an explanation for absence or lateness

  • Communicate with your child’s teachers and update your family contact details

  • View the school calendar

  • Pay and provide consent for events and school fees

  • Download and view their child’s progress and semester reports (from the end of Term 2, 2019)

  • Book parent teacher conferences (to be implemented in 2019)

We encourage all families to familiarise yourselves with Compass as we work to further integrate it into our school operations. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email or swing past the office!

Parents & Friends

Hughesdale Parents and Friends – come and join us!

“Families and schools work together as partners in the education of children and young people.” (Family – School Partnerships Framework. A Guide for schools and families, Department of Education.)

We warmly invite members of the school community to join the Hughesdale Primary School Parents and Friends Committee, a wonderful group of volunteers who work behind the scenes to create engaging and fun events for our school community every year.

While some of our initiatives are aimed at fundraising, many are simply all about fun and getting the entire school community together. Our kids love dancing the night away at our annual disco, clocking up laps during our Colour Run, and performing at our end of year Community Night. We also hold a bi-annual Carnival (almost as good as the Royal Melbourne Show) and a Trivia Night just for the adults!

Would you like to join P&F? We need you!

We’d love to talk to people who are interested in contributing to our school community and having lots of fun along the way.

To find out more, please email: hps.pf.team@gmail.com

SunSmart

We are a SunSmart School

Our Sunsmart policy has been developed to create environments and encourage behaviours which reflect a healthy UV exposure balance, ensuring some sun exposure for vitamin D while minimising the risk of skin cancer.

Note: Overexposure to UV during childhood and adolescence is a major factor in determining future skin cancer risk. Melanoma is the most common cancer in young Australians aged 13-24 years.

SunSmart Policy

eSmart

Bring Your Own Device - BYOD

We recognise our students need to develop a range of skills that support them as 21st century learners and to meet the outcomes in the Digital Technologies curriculum. By increasing number of devices available in classrooms the benefits and opportunities for this teaching and learning can be expanded.

By providing our students with the richest possible experiences to develop the skills required in our information-based economy we are ultimately setting them up for success for life beyond the classroom. Our students need to be given opportunities to solve problems creatively, work with others, communicate via a range of mediums, use their creativity skills to demonstrate understandings, as well as overcoming challenges in creative, imaginative ways.

The BYOD program exists for students in Years 4, 5, and 6 (with the option to enter in Year 3). We have partnered with Learning with Technologies to provide a purchasing portal that hosts the devices we recommend as best suiting your child’s learning needs from Years 3 to 6 at Hughesdale Primary School.
